Guest Filming Guide: Grown-Up Confessions🎓

🎬What our video podcast is about

We demystify the most confusing and irritating parts of adult life — in a fun, human way.

We’re having open, honest conversations about the things everyone wishes they’d learned in school — helping young people, adults and schools all over the world.

🎤 What we want from you

  • 🌍 Share your real-world expertise
  • 💖 Be yourself — honest, approachable, human
  • 🧹 Help clear up common myths, confusions, and frustrations
  • ✨ Have fun – share interesting stories — make grown-up life relatable, and easier to understand

You don’t need media experience — just be yourself and chat with us like you would over a cuppa.

We’ll work together to help you represent yourself in the best way.

🎓 What are Grown-Up Confessions Episodes ?

Every adult has moments they wish someone had warned them about.

Grown-Up Confessions is a long-form interview series built around honest conversations about the parts of adult life people don’t always talk about openly — from career pressure and money stress to relationships, mistakes, awkward experiences, burnout, and figuring life out as you go.

The aim is to create relatable conversations that help people feel less alone, less behind, and less overwhelmed by adulthood.

🎥 Filming location

Episodes are filmed in Barry Island, South Wales.

(Full address provided via email on your booking confirmation)

🎤 What to expect

  • 📸 Professionally filmed long-form conversation.
  • ☀️ Friendly, relaxed, informal — filmed at a home in Barry Island.
  • ☕ Casual conversation — think tea and a chat, not a formal interview.

🙋‍♀️ Our audience

Before starting the podcast, The Grown-Up School has reached hundreds of thousands of active online learners since we started.

Our audience includes young adults, schools, and anyone trying to navigate life with a little more confidence.

📋 Will I see the questions in advance?

Yes – we’ll send you a guide with questions/topics we hope to discuss with you, so that you feel as comfortable and prepared as possible for the conversation.

🫢What if I say something I don’t want included?

We’ll do everything we can to help you sound your best!

If there is anything you do not want included, please tell us on the day of recording — either before we finish or immediately after recording.

📱How will the content be used?

Whilst YouTube, Spotify, TikTok, and LinkedIn are our primary platforms for the podcast, your interview content could be used in a wide variety of ways, such as:

  • full episodes, short clips, educational compilations, reels, trailers, social media posts, teaching materials, TV/news content etc.

Content could be released on lots of different platforms, at different times. We will aim to keep you updated as much as possible where your content is used.

Whilst we aim to edit and publish your interview as soon as possible after recording, we may release the content weeks or months after filming depending on our release schedule — please keep this in mind.

✍️ Will I need to sign anything?

We’ll ask you to sign a simple guest appearance agreement (via jotform, which will automatically be emailed as soon as we have confirmed your filming dates)

If you represent any particular organisations or employer, you will need to make sure to get their permission first if needed.

✂️ What if I want to change or take something down later?

Once episodes or clips are made public, they may be widely shared — while we always act responsibly, we can’t guarantee complete removal after public release.

👚 What should I wear?

•👷‍♀️If you have a recognisable uniform – amazing! This helps audiences instantly know who they’re hearing from.

•✨Otherwise, wear whatever feels comfortable and what you’d typically wear to day-to-day — block colours work best on camera (avoid busy patterns or logos).

⌚ How long will recording take?

Approx. 2–3 hours (introductions, filming, short debrief).

Why not make a fun day of it — Barry Island beach is a short stroll away!

🗺️ Getting to the recording set

A home gets converted to a studio for recording dates, which helps the podcast episodes to feel welcoming, comfortable, relatable, and for the conversation to feel natural.

The home is in the Barry Island area (near the beach) with plenty of free street parking available – no permit needed.

We can also help with lifts to/from local train stations – Barry Island, Barry, and Cardiff Central.

👪 Can family/friends/colleagues attend the recording?

Yes — friends, family, or colleagues are welcome to attend and watch the recording (as long as they’re happy to be quiet and unsupervised during filming, and also sign a guest release form as they may be captured during filming). Please let us know if you plan to bring any additional guests with you to filming.

☕ What are the facilities like for the recording?

🍪 We’ll provide drinks and snacks for the recording, please let us know if you or your guests have any dietary needs or preferences for these.

🚾 Toilet facilities are upstairs, so please do let us know if you have any accessibility requirements.

💰 Does the podcast make money?

The Grown-Up School is a social business — meaning we put making a positive impact ahead of making a profit. Our priority is helping people learn life skills that school didn’t teach them, and ensuring that we offer this in a completely free way.

We hope the podcast will eventually generate income to help us grow our work. But right now, it’s very much a passion project — our founder Laura is giving up hundreds of hours of her time unpaid to create it, supported by media professionals including TV producers and PR experts who are also volunteering their time.

This project exists to benefit society. Income it may generate in the future will be used to further that mission — but profit is not the driving goal.

💷 Will I be paid?

While the podcast is currently unpaid for guests, we want to make sure you get plenty of value and benefits from being involved, such as:

  • 🎥 A high quality, produced video that you can share with your personal and professional network.
  • 🙌 Raise your profile – the podcast will be shared widely across social media, YouTube, and other platforms, helping you and your expertise reach a broad audience.
  • 🧑‍🏫Support schools and young people — many of our viewers are schools, young people, and adults looking to learn — your insights will genuinely help people to improve their lives.
  • 🏖Great day out — come and film in Barry Island (with the option of bringing friends/colleagues/family to watch), enjoy drinks, snacks, and maybe even a beach visit!
  • 🎤  Help shape the national conversation — by contributing to this project, you’ll be helping to raise awareness about important life skills that many people wish they’d learned in school.
  • 🎬 Professional filming experience — the show is produced to a high standard with TV professionals involved — great experience if you’d like more media opportunities.
  • ✂️ Editable content — we want you to shine — if you’re not happy with something on the day, we can cut it before release.
  • ☀️ Flexible and friendly — we work around your availability and preferences, making the day relaxed and enjoyable.
