What is the “Bottom Line”? –
Introduction 👋
The “bottom line” has two main meanings:
Bottom line = how much money a company makes.
For example, you might hear someone say, “All the business thinks about is their bottom line”.
It also means-
Bottom line = the most important thing.
For example, you might hear someone say, “The bottom line is that we need to move house as soon as possible!”
Financial Reports 💸
“The bottom Line” refers to the “bottom line” of a company’s financial reports (which says how much money they’ve made!).
This means that if a business is “worried about their bottom line” – it means that they’re worried about how much money they’re making.
On financial reports, the amount of money the business makes and loses/spends are printed in order from top to bottom. The number on the bottom line is the summary of all of the numbers above it.
The “bottom line” in a financial report is often the most important thing because it tells you how much money the business has made or lost.
Sometimes when people read financial reports they’ll skip reading most of the report and go straight to the “bottom line” to read it.
This means that sometimes when someone says the “the bottom line”, they could also be pointing towards the most important thing.
